Mary Szydłowska: Ionic

IKOB – Museum für Zeitgenössiche Kunst, November 2023Part of the public programme for Marcin Dudek: Akumulatory
Ionic is a new performance work by Mary Szydłowska developed as a response to Marcin Dudek’s IKOB exhibition AKUMULATORY. The performance moves through the ghostly and transcendent registers in the exhibition, investigating the inherent performativity of the past. Szydłowska’s choreographed body distorts and dissolves through altered physical states, dispossessed of an ultimate destination. The artist proposes an ionic bond between her work and Dudek’s: a chemical connection between two things with opposite charges.

Ionic by Mary Szydłowska was realised with the generous support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and Wallonie-Bruxelles International. The performance is conceived in a collaborative set-up with the assistance support of Pierre-Louis Kerbart, dramaturgy advice from Elisa Liepsch, costume collaboration with Federico Protto & movement research with Abigail Aleksander.
